Mount Vernon Nazarene University offered its first Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree program designed for adults to 22 students at the Mount Vernon campus in 1993. By 1995, MVNU added a second site at Polaris Parkway in Columbus. Today, more than 1,300 students are enrolled in Adult and Graduate Studies (AGS) with nine locations: Mount Vernon, Cincinnati, Columbus, Gahanna, Grove City, Lima, Mansfield, Marion and Newark. Two BBA majors are now offered as well as undergraduate degrees in nursing and social work; graduate degrees in business, education, and ministry; general studies courses, and certificate programs in education and ministry.

In order to remain competitive in adult education, AGS continually re-evaluates its program offerings to respond to the changing needs of adult students. The goal is, "to develop a growth plan that addresses the needs of the non-traditional student while still staying true to the mission of the University," said Rev. Timothy Eades, associate vice president for University Marketing and Adult and Graduate Studies Enrollment Management.
AGS for Adult Learners
AGS at Mount Vernon Nazarene University provides an opportunity for adults to obtain a quality education in a learning environment emphasizing Christian values and ethical standards. Within this context, MVNU serves as a resource for adults seeking to enhance their personal and professional lives in a constantly changing world.
Because AGS students have significant work experience and career aspirations, the AGS approach to education creates a stimulating learning environment that has immediate application. AGS provides educational value in multiple ways:
- Many programs are designed for students to focus on one course at a time by attending class just once a week. Nursing students can choose from a number of courses conveniently taking place one day a week.
- Instructors do more than just deliver information; they engage adults in interacting with the information and make it personally relevant. Full-time instructors are knowledgeable leaders in their industry, hold a master's or doctoral degree, and are evangelical Christians seeking to improve the lives of others through education. Instructors use curriculum developed by professionals and continually updated to maximize the learning experience.
- Services take all the hassle out of earning a college degree by simplifying tasks, from registration to obtaining textbooks.
