Our new visual fine art facility—the Buchwald Center—opened in the fall of 2009. The entire MVNU Art Department is housed in the refurbished and redesigned historic Stage building in downtown Mount Vernon, a short shuttle-bus ride from main campus.
This is a dramatic increase in studio space from approximately 7,000 square feet in our old facility to approximately 32,000 square feet of space. Four stories includes state-of-the-art studios, classrooms, faculty offices, track lighting, film projection capabilities, and more.
The first level Schnormeier Gallery displays student, professional, and community exhibitions. The building is be wireless for computing and Internet needs and was the first LEED certified building in Knox County.
The creation of this new and exciting art facility was made possible by generous donations of the Mount Vernon business community. We look forward to expanding our strong relationship with the city of Mount Vernon by bringing dynamic cultural and educational opportunities for all in the renaissance of the downtown community.
Located in Founders hall on main campus, the Mac lab contains 30 dual-boot iMacs with Adobe Creative Suite software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Dreamweaver) available on the Mac platform only. QuarkXPress is also used.
Many graphic design courses are taught in the lab; it is open additional hours for student use. Macs with appropriate software are also available in the library.
Adobe Creative Suite software can be ordered for students’ personal computers through MVNU’s Cougar Corner Bookstore at a discount.
