Our new visual fine art facility—the Buchwald Center—will open in the fall of 2009. The entire MVNU Art Department will be housed in the refurbished and redesigned historic Stage building in downtown Mount Vernon, a short shuttle-bus ride from main campus.
This is a dramatic increase in studio space from approximately 7,000 square feet in our old facility to approximately 32,000 square feet of space. Four stories will include state-of-the-art studios, classrooms, faculty offices, track lighting, film projection capabilities, and more.
The first level Schnormeier Gallery will display student, professional, and community exhibitions. The building will be wireless for computing and Internet needs and is anticipated to be the first LEED certified building in Knox County.
The creation of this new and exciting art facility was made possible by generous donations of the Mount Vernon business community. We look forward to expanding our strong relationship with the city of Mount Vernon by bringing dynamic cultural and educational opportunities for all in the renaissance of the downtown community.
