MVNU recognizes the diverse backgrounds in our student population and places great value on their personal and professional experiences. We welcome students who have experienced qualified learning opportunities outside of the classroom post-high school and award prior learning credit for several forms of non-traditional education, including:
- military service
- on-the-job training
- standardized exams
- professional licensure
- corporate and/or professional training
- specific government and industry experience
- other activities with credible associations and agencies
Submissions for prior learning credit must include one or more of the following forms of supporting documentation:
- course syllabi
- letters from supervisors
- company training histories
MVNU also has a partnership with LearningCounts, an online portfolio assessment service that will allow adult students to take a course and learn how to create learning portfolios demonstrating their learning from work experience to earn undergraduate college credit. For example, a student with several years of marketing experience may be able to build a portfolio for an introductory Marketing course. If the portfolio receives a credit recommendation from the assessor, the student will not have to take the Marketing course, and the credit recommendation will appear on their transcript. American Council on Education (ACE) approved courses and training documentation, as well as military Joint Service Transcripts, may also be submitted. Up to 40 credits for prior learning may be awarded.
Your Enrollment Specialist will be able to assist you with your request for evaluation of prior learning credit as part of the admissions process.
