Self-Study Coordinator

Ms. Brenita Nicholas, associate professor of social work, was appointed as the self-study coordinator. The self-study coordinator is responsible for and empowered to:
  • Provide guidance to the self-study process in terms of planning, organization, and timetables.
  • Work with the HLC Steering Committee to develop a self-study mission statement, goals and timetable to guide the self-study process.
  • Prepare and submit the self-study design.
  • Monitor the entire self-study process including focus, research, drafting, call for public comment and revision.
  • Develop a list of current data sources to resource criterion committees and project teams.
  • Assist with research design and data gathering for criterion committees and project teams.
  • Provide general assistance to criterion committees, as well as teams.
  • Work with Administrative Computing and University Advancement to coordinate an HLC webpage for internal use, as well as public reporting.
  • Adhere to the highest standards of research and reporting ethics.
  • Work with Archive and Documentation Team to catalog and store evidence in order to build a resource room for the visiting team.
  • Work with administration and others on campus to develop and coordinate presentations, information sessions, roundtables, etc. related to the self-study process.
  • Update the cabinet, Board of Trustees and campus community on a regular basis.
  • Work with the Campus Preparation Team to prepare the physical campus for the HLC team’s visit.
  • Work with the Hospitality Team to coordinate the HLC team’s visit.
  • Work with the HLC and other designated Mount Vernon Nazarene University personnel to prepare any follow-up concerns noted by the visiting team.
