Innovative new M.Min. program immerses students in churches
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- Mount Vernon Nazarene University is debuting an innovative approach to earning a Master of Ministrya new church-based degree program which, on average, can be completed in 11 months (three semesters).
About the Program
This program, designed for young graduates and those with flexible schedules, combines the academic experience with a practical church-based experience, pairing students with one of five large churches in Ohio. Students will be mentored by a strong pastoral leader and church staff while they learn how the church functions by participating in the process.
Churches Involved
Earning 30 credits (transferable for one-third of the Master of Divinity program if desired), students are immersed in an Ohio teaching church for 15-20 hour each week. Churches involved in the program include:
• Lima Community Church of the Nazarene (Lima, Ohio)
• Beavercreek Church of the Nazarene (Beavercreek, Ohio)
• Grove City Church of the Nazarene (Grove City, Ohio)
• Wooster Church of the Nazarene (Wooster, Ohio)
• Springdale Church of the Nazarene (Cincinnati, Ohio)
Classes meet for six hours on Mondays, most via video conferencing at convenient MVNU locations throughout Ohio. Cohort groups provide solidarity and support as students move through the program together. Students meet at MVNU main campus in Mount Vernon twice a semester. Practics courses are enhanced by church staff.
From the Program Coordinator
"This is a unique program for people preparing for various ministries in the local church. Students have the opportunity to immediately apply the learning of the classroom into the practical ministry of a growing church,” said Program Coordinator Dr. Bruce Petersen. “This provides once-in-a-lifetime educational exposure to an effective church and ministerial staff."
