For the Love of Reading
Educating future teachers at MVNU since 1982, Greer has modeled a love of reading, children's books and adolescent literature to thousands of students. She reads aloud prior to each class; assists students in developing their own literature collections; graciously lends books from her personal library; and instills a great appreciation for authors, illustrators, and poets.

The literature collection will be housed in a newly created space in the lower level of MVNU's Thorne Library. Surrounded with comfortable seating, beautiful rugs, hand-crafted wooden book shelves and a fireplace, it will be a place of beauty, comfort and convenience for students, faculty, staff, alumni and community friends. Visitors can browse, select and discuss the more than 1,000 books in the collection.

Initial funding for this project originated with a Mark of Mount Vernon Internal Grant Opportunity from MVNU's President's Advisory Council. Over the past six months, MVNU alumni, current students, fellow faculty and staff, and community friends have enthusiastically supported the project by purchasing the books for the collection, personally chosen from a list created by Greer.

Notes, photos and memories poured in from those who have been inspired by Miss Marilyn as a student or faculty member. These have been collected and contained in a special scrapbook to be presented to Greer at the reception in November.
