Dr. B. David Liles joined the MVNU music faculty in August of 1976. He has taught studio voice, beginning voice class, vocal literature, vocal pedagogy, Intro to Music and Worship, Hymnology, two general education courses, Music in the Western World and Senior Colloquium. He has also advised church music interns. Liles holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn., a Master of Sacred Music from Wittenberg University and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance from The Ohio State University. He has performed in concerts and recitals in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Colorado.

Liles will retire from MVNU in July 2011 after 35 years of service. The upcoming recital will consist of some of Liles’ favorites that he has taught or performed through the years, including works by Giulio Caccini, Alessandro Scarlatti, Felix Mendelssohn, J.S. Bach and Franz Schubert. The program will end with “The Prayer” and will be performed with his daughters, Brittany Eaton of Mount Vernon and Janea Lewis of Ashland, both of whom studied voice with him while students at MVNU.

Dr. John Packard joined the MVNU’s music faculty in the fall of 2004. A graduate of the University of Illinois, he earned an M.M. in trumpet performance at the University of Northern Colorado. He completed a D.A. in trumpet performance and pedagogy with a secondary emphasis in wind conducting in 2008, also through the University of Northern Colorado.

Packard is active as a conductor and clinician. In 2009, he guest conducted one of two Tri-County Honor Bands hosted by the College of Wooster and served as a featured conductor on a concert with the Kenyon College Wind Ensemble. He was also a conductor for the 2008 and 2010 Ohio Private College Instrumental Conductors Association (OPCICA) annual honor band festivals. Since 2007, he has hosted annually the OMEA District 10 Honor Bands on the MVNU campus, and, in 2010, hosted the OPCICA honor band festival. As a performer, Packard has played with the Springfield Symphony, Greeley Symphony and Central Ohio Brass Band. He also performs regularly on the MVNU campus including the annual performance of “Messiah” and for yearly concerts and tours with the MVNU Chamber Winds. This past fall, Packard was the featured soloist with the Knox County Symphony. He will perform works by John Stanley, Ernst Sachse, Georges Enseco and J.B. Arban.
