Photo of Wendell TownsWendell Towns was a two-year member of the MVNU men’s basketball team from 1970-1972 when the school was still just a two-year institution.

As a freshman, Towns led the Cougars in scoring with a 22.3 points per game average as he scored 490 points in 22 games.  MVNU eclipsed the 100-point scoring mark in five games that season.

As a sophomore, Towns posted one of the most impressive seasons in school history as he averaged 25.2 points and 25.6 rebounds per game.  He had three games that season with 30 or more points and 30 or more rebounds.  His most impressive performance came in a 104-89 victory over Bethel (Ind.) College when he scored 34 points and grabbed 34 rebounds.  He also scored a career-high 39 points in a 97-95 win over Ohio University-Lancaster.

For his career, Towns compiled 1,096 points in just two seasons to become the school’s all-time leading scorer at that point.  He still ranks 21st on MVNU’s all-time scoring list.
