Amigos

Amigos is an evening program that works with children and adults of the Spanish speaking community, to better understand English

Mandate

Mandate is our urban ministries focused group. We travel to a variety of urban areas throughout the course of the year, and assist established ministries in whatever way we can.

Bookworms

Bookworms is a partnership MVNU students have with Columbia Elementary School. Our students go into Columbia, as schedules allow, and serve teachers through tutoring and classroom help.

Days and times vary.

One Way

One Way travels to churches and organizations throughout the year to minister through music, drama, and social interaction.

Travel dates and locations vary.

Columbia Kids

Columbia Kids is an after school program we are connected with through Columbia Elementary School. MVNU students tutor Columbia students in homework and build relationships through fun activities.

Thursdays from 3:30-5pm at South Vernon Methodist Church.

Meet in Chapel parking lot @ 3pm for transportation.

PB&J Club

PB&J Club travels to Vernon Ridge Apartment Complex to hang out, read Bible stories, play games, make crafts, and eat PB&J with the children of residents in the Complex.

Monday nights from 6-7:30pm.

Meet in Chapel lobby @ 5:30 for transportation.

Cut-N-Paste

Cut-N-Paste Paste works to encourage children to be creative through arts and crafts, and connects the beauty of creativity to God’s creations.

Thursday evenings from 4:30-6pm at First Presbyterian Church.

Meet in front of Pioneer at 4:10 for transportation.

SMILE

SMILE (Students Making an Impact in the Lives of the Elderly) ministers to the elderly community residing at Country Club through hymns, fellowship, and various activities.

Sunday nights from 6-7:15pm.

Meet in Cafeteria lobby @ 5:40 for transportation.

Wagon

Wagon is a group that socializes and discusses faith with Mulberry St. UMC church members and community youth.

Saturday 7:30-11:00pm.

Meet in chapel parking lot @ 6:45pm for transportation.

Transition Mission

Transition Mission reaches out to the developmentally delayed students from Knox county (middle school and high school) through crafts, fun activities and fellowship.

Thursdays 10:20-11:20am in the PSU.

Society of Cougar Nurses (SCN)

Society of Cougar Nurses (SCN) is a group exclusive to Nursing Majors. They coordinate various events throughout the year revolving around the nursing program.

Pumzika

Pumzika is Swahili for “rest.” This is our homeless ministry outreach group. Students have the opportunity to go to Winter Sanctuary and visit with men, women, and children.

Father's Table

Father's Table is a weekly soup-kitchen at Mt. Vernon First Church in congruence with the effort of Knox county churches to provide a free meal every day of the week. Come serve a hot meal to Knox county residents and build relationships!

Wednesday nights from 4:30-7pm.

Meet at First Church of the Nazarene’s Foster Ministry Center.

Escape Zone

Escape Zone ministers to the youth of Knox County through homework help and a safe place to hang out on Friday nights.

Homework help: Wednesday and Thursday from 3-6pm.

Friday night 7-11pm.

Meet in chapel parking lot @6:35pm for transportation.

Echoing Hills

Echoing Hills is a group that travels to Echoing Hills Village to play games, sings, crafts, and build relationships with the developmentally delayed adults of Echoing Hills Village.

Travel approximately once a month on Sunday afternoons from 2-4pm.

Meet in chapel parking lot @ 1:30pm for transportation.

Recess

Recess is an opportunity for our students to build relationships with the kids of local elementary schools in a one-on-one or group setting. This is a great way to show the kids of our community that they are cared for.

Meeting times vary.
