Our licensed teachers will lead your child on a week-long exploration of science or art, discovering new and exciting concepts along the way! Move over summer school, MVNU Summer Quests are here!

Art Quest -

"Camping Out with Art"
Do you like art? Do you like camping? Did you know art can be found outdoors? Be an Art Camper this summer at Art Quest! We will discover the natural world through the lens of visual art. We will investigate plants, animals, insects, and natural resources through the works of various artists, children's books, and fun art making techniques. Come join us as we explore the natural world through art (and learn math, science, and social studies along the way)!
Human Body Quest -

Monday through Friday, July 15-19, 2013 8:30-11:30 amHave you ever wondered how your body works? Where does food go after you eat it? How many bones are in your body? What makes your heart beat faster and slower? We will answer all these questions and more through the use of reading tools, songs, games, crafts, hands-on interactive activities and more! Come join us for this fun scientific exploration of the human body!

Monday through Friday, July 22-26, 2013 8:30-11:30 amHave you ever wondered why the weather is so crazy? How can it rain while the sun is shining? How can it be too cold to snow? What is the difference between a tornado and a hurricane? Join us as we explore why the weather acts the way it does. We will become meteorologists for a week as we use hands-on experiments and demonstrations to discover truths about weather.
Ocean Quest -

Do you love the ocean? Have you ever wondered about the animals that live in the ocean and what their habitat is like? During our quest under the sea we will research the characteristics and features of the ocean and the animals that live there. Join us for hands-on activities that will explore why the ocean is so important and how it plays a role in all our lives. Demonstrations, activities, and games will enhance our learning in science, reading, and math. Sign up to have oceans of fun!

Detective Quest -

Monday through Friday, July 8-12, 2013 8:30-11:30 amWho doesn't want to be like Batman or Sherlock Holmes? If you are good at finding clues and can't get enough of a good mystery, it is time to put your investigation skills to work at our week-long Detective Quest! Join us while we use real science labs to develop our forensic skills, follow evidence, and solve a crime! Each day will feature a new case to be cracked, providing the opportunity to follow a case, start to finish.

"Art Adventures"
Do you like art? Are you interested in far-away places? Be an Art Traveler and discover diverse art around the world influenced by different cultures, places, environments, and biomes. We will journey around the world with various artists, children's books, and art making techniques as our guides. Join us on a trip around the world! Art Adventure Travelers will use social studies, math, and language arts to enhance our trek across the globe!

Did you know pineapples are berries, peanuts are beans, and asparagus is part of the lily family? Did you know some plants like acid in their soil? Did you know some plants eat meat? Join our garden quest to learn more interesting plant facts, what it takes to make a garden thrive, and the science involved in growing your own food. Along the way we will create other items you may find in a garden such as wind chimes and butterfly houses. You will even create a Garden in a Bottle! Come join us for a week of gardening fun!
Geology Quest -

Have you ever seen a geode? Did you know some minerals glow under fluorescent light? Join us on a geology quest and explore the different types of rocks, the rock cycle, and the formation of minerals. We will be cracking our own geodes, growing crystals, exploring fossils and learning about volcanoes, too. Geology rocks!
Cost:
$40 per quest $25 per quest*
*Tuition assistance is provided for all families by a generous grant from the Community Foundation of Mount Vernon and Knox County.
Space is limited to 20 participants per Quest session.
All Quest sessions will be held in the Jennie K. Moore building on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
Reading Recharge Quest
(For children currently in grades K-2)
Does your child lack reading confidence? Why not let him or her travel with a licensed reading teacher on a Reading Recharge Quest to find fluency and become a better reader? Each two week session will provide an intervention experience for students who have completed grades K-2. Students will work in small groups to explore stories, poems, and songs using research based methods in order to build skills in working with words and to develop fluency and enjoyment of reading.
Let your child have fun while maintaining skills from last year and learning new skills that will be needed next year! Lessons will be based on the Ohio Common Core Standards, including:
- Vocabulary
- Decoding Skills
- Phonics
- Comprehension
- Following Directions
Reading Recharge Quest Session 1: Monday through Friday, July 8-19, 2013, 8:30 - 11:30 am
Reading Recharge Quest Session 2: Monday through Friday, July 22-August 2, 2013, 8:30-11:30 am
Reading Camps will be held in the Jennie K. Moore building on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
Cost: $80 per reading quest $65 per reading quest (2 full weeks
