WNZR's Lifeline 2018 surpasses the goal

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - WNZR 90.9 FM, a broadcast ministry of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, is celebrating the success of Lifeline 2018, the radio station’s annual fundraiser.

Lifeline 2018 was held in late March with a goal of $62,000. This year’s effort has brought in $64,105 and the total continues to rise. Blessed with over 220 ministry partners, the WNZR staff was greatly encouraged and extremely thankful for the community’s support.

"God is so faithful," said WNZR Station Manager Marcy Rinehart. "We are so honored to be part of a ministry that is growing and reaching our community for Christ.  Thank you to everyone who pledged their support and became partners in our radio ministry! You are making a difference in our community"

The theme of Lifeline 2018 was Fix Our Eyes, based on the song “Fix My Eyes” by for King & Country. This theme challenged the WNZR staff and listeners to focus their attention on God and loving others. The theme verse for Lifeline 2018 was 2 Corinthians 4:18 which instructs believers to focus on the eternal rather than temporary concerns.

Lifeline 2018 began Wednesday morning March 21 with a day of Prayer and Praise. Throughout the day, WNZR’s focus was on praising God, sharing prayer requests and testimonies and intentionally praying for the community. Listeners called in to share their personal stories about God’s work in their lives.

Official fund-raising days were March 22-26. Numerous special events were held including the Lifeline Choice Challenge which offered gift certificates to those pledging $150 or more. Friday brought Matching Challenge Day and listeners’ pledges were matched by several generous donors in the community. Friday evening, WNZR hosted a special showing of the new film “I Can Only Imagine” at Premier Theatre in Mount Vernon. Donors who took the Lifeline Challenge ($25/month, total of $300) before Thursday, March 22 received tickets to see the story behind the powerful song by MercyMe.

On Saturday, March 24, WNZR held its first ever Lifeline 5K.  That morning, 44 participants showed up to Mount Vernon Nazarene University to run, walk, or bike for Lifeline 2018. Saturday afternoon, the crew went on the road to provide community service to local ministry, Place 4 Grace. Place 4 Grace is a maternity home that teaches un-wed mothers self-sufficiency, in a safe, secure, and stable home; to end poverty and generational un-wed pregnancy cycles.

At 8 p.m. Saturday the total stood at just over $48,300. WNZR returned to fundraising on Monday morning, March 26, with the Lifeline 2018 Wrap-Up Day. A little after 6 p.m. the station received the call that pushed the total over the goal of $62,000.

“Lifeline 2018 has been another example of how meaningful the partnership is between our listeners and our team of student broadcasters,” said MVNU Director of Broadcasting Joe Rinehart. “I'm so grateful to the entire WNZR family for continuing to support our radio ministry.  The growth of WNZR over the last 31 years has been amazing, and I can't wait to see what God will do next.”

There were 48 first-time donors, 173 continued supporters, and 3 increased pledges, demonstrating that God is continually reaching new people and families through WNZR.

“Thank you for believing in us each and every year and showing that through your financial support, prayers, and encouragement,” said sophomore journalism and media production major, Daria Swisher. “We are honored to be a part of your life and thankful for the opportunity to minister to you and your family.”

“I cannot find the right words to express my appreciation to you,” said Hannah Radke, sophomore communications major from Medina, OH. “It is so exciting to see what God is doing in WNZR through your financial support and prayers. Thank you for join the WNZR family as we seek to continuously Fix Our Eyes on God.”
