Music Department presents Homecoming Concert, Alumni Gathering, and Entertainment Showcase
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Music Department will perform their annual Homecoming Concert on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m., in the R.R. Hodges Chapel Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will include a variety of repertoire featuring the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Flute Choir, Chamber Winds, Goliards Chamber Choir, Treble Singers Women’s Choir, and Collegians Chorale. The ensembles will combine for the finale, the classic “The Majesty and Glory of Your Name.” All choral alumni are invited to sing along with the ensembles. There will be a rehearsal at 10 a.m. in the Chapel Auditorium.
There will also be various areas in the Chapel organized by each ensemble where MVNU Music Department alumni may gather at the end of the concert to reconnect with friends from their years at MVNU. A slide show of memories from the years will be shown during this time and alumni are encouraged to bring their own photos (digital or hard copy) to share. The music department hopes to have representatives from all decades since the university’s beginning in 1968.
The MVNU Jazz Band will also perform that evening at the Golden Gala, Homecoming’s pinnacle 50th Anniversary Celebration event celebrating the life of MVNU. Lastly, current students and alumni will join together to present an Entertainment Showcase at 8:15 p.m. in Thorne Performance Hall. Individuals and groups will perform musical and drama selections in various lighter styles. The showcase is free and open to the public.
