PROGRAM DESIGN & CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministries can be earned as a stand alone degree or in combination with a concentration for students seeking ordination in the Church of the Nazarene and who need a certificate verifying graduation from a validated course of study. In order to receive this certificate, students must complete both the Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministries program and ordination concentration in their entirety.

This program has been designed to help you :

  • Understand the biblical, theological, and historical foundations for the practice of ministry;
  • Apply these classical disciplines to pastoral ministry tasks and other forms of service;
  • Enhance skills for the practice of ministry in leadership, communication, pastoral care, counseling, and education;
  • Serve as lead pastors, associate pastors, youth pastors, children's pastors, and church planters;
  • Strengthen the art of proclamation, including interpretation of scripture, application to human need, and communication for evangelism, Christian nurture, and moral challenge;
  • Identify the purpose and goals of ministry and develop the disciplines of planning, implementing, and assessing progress toward those goals;

Students must successfully complete ITDS2061 (Student Success Strategies) before continuing into the remainder of the Christian Ministry program. Courses included in the Christian Ministry program are listed below. Each of the courses that comprise this program are six weeks in length, including those that are part of the Ordination Concentration.

FINANCIAL INFORMATION

The Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry program has been designed with both affordability and student convenience in mind. Payment is made on a courseby- course basis and our financial aid advisors will work with you on a variety of financial aid options, including employer tuition reimbursement. Although financing your college education can seem overwhelming, you may be able to reduce your cost if you are proactive and fully explore your financial aid opportunities. You can pay for your degree in many different ways, so taking the time to apply for financial assistance from as many sources as possible is worth the effort.

In addition to completing your online application for admission, you should also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.studentaid.gov. MVNU’s school code is 007085. Filling out the FAFSA is an important step in the financial aid process and is required for any financial aid to be awarded.

PRIOR LEARNING CREDIT

MVNU is proud of the diverse backgrounds of our students. Your work experience is important to us. Because of this, MVNU awards prior learning credit (PLC) for non-traditional education. We welcome students who have experienced learning opportunities outside of the classroom, such as on-the-job training, seminars, specific government and industry experience, military experience, professional schools and trainings, and other activities completed through credible associations and agencies. Once you apply to the BACM program, your Enrollment Specialist can discuss our PLC policies and assist you through the evaluation process for awarding PLC credit as general education credit towards your degree.

PROGRAM POLICIES

Students must successfully complete the “Preventing Sexual Harassment” online training session required of all MVNU faculty, staff, and students and abide by the university’s policies in this area. Students are expected to have basic knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office or programs similar.

As an MVNU student, you will have access to Microsoft Office 365.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of an online application.
  • Submission of all previous college transcripts;
  • GPA of 2.00 or higher on a 4.00 scale for any education completed during the past 5 years (applicants with a college GPA of less than 2.0 may apply for probationary admittance);
  • Completion of a Registration Agreement Form.

Students must complete the following MVNU courses or equivalent transfer courses before progressing into the remainder of the Christian Ministry program: BIBL1003 (Old Testament History and Literature), BIBL1013 (New Testament History and Literature), and COMM1023 (Public Speaking). Applicants from countries and US territories in which English is not the primary language must also provide recent evidence of proficiency in English by scoring 80 or above on the Internet Based TOEFL with subscores in writing, reading, speaking and listening of at least 20; or scoring 550 or above on the written TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) with subscores in writing and reading of at least 50. All tests of English proficiency must have been taken in the last two years to be considered for acceptance.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Students must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours (with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00) including:

  1. Successful completion of the SGPS General Education Core (39 credit hours):
    • 15 credit hours in Arts and Humanities (Minimum of 3 credit hours in an English composition course with a research writing component; minimum of 3 credit hours in Bible/Theology)
    • 15 credit hours in Natural and Social Sciences, and Mathematics (Minimum of 3 credit hours in Mathematics; minimum of 3 credit hours in Social Science; and minimum of 3 credit hours in Natural Science with laboratory)
    • 9 credit hours in Liberal Arts electives
  2. Completion of at least 39 credit hours of upper division coursework (3000 level or higher).
  3. Successful completion of the 37-credit hour Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry curriculum with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50. A student who receives a grade below “C-” in any Christian Ministry course will be required to repeat that course until a grade of “C-” or better is earned. All repeated coursework to replace grades of D+, D, F, W, or X is at the student’s expense.
