MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University proudly announces that Amy Flavin, Compliance Specialist and Designated School Official for the International Executive Studies program, has been named the recipient of the 2024 Board of Trustees Hospitality Award. This prestigious award, established by the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees, is given annually to an individual who demonstrates outstanding hospitality and a positive impact on the university community.

The Hospitality Award is based on the following criteria:

  • Making a significant impact on the University through consistent hospitality.
  • Demonstrating positive, respectful, and effective interactions with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Exhibiting professionalism, warmth, and a gracious attitude.

During a special ceremony, Board Chair Rev. Ed Phillips read a tribute in honor of Amy’s service before presenting her with the 2024 BOT Hospitality Award. The award is symbolized by the “Towel and Basin” statue, which serves as a reminder of the servant-hearted hospitality that Amy consistently demonstrates in her work at MVNU.

“We started this award to encourage a hospitable attitude throughout the campus, and we are glad to see that it is evident in our offices and among our students,” said Rev. Phillips.

Flavin has been an integral member of the MVNU staff since October 2016, serving in various capacities within the Graduate and Professional Studies program before stepping into her current role. Throughout her tenure, she has been recognized for her exceptional dedication to serving both students and colleagues with a heart of hospitality and kindness.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with Amy for almost a year now and what a blessing this last year has been,” said Jennifer Dean, Director of Operations and Special Projects. “Amy’s knowledge and passion not only benefit the MVNU community, but they also greatly benefit our International Executive Studies program. She always goes above and beyond to ensure every student’s question is answered, and every need is met, all while having a smile on her face. She has a unique way of making each student feel heard and important, all at the same time.”

Becky Leija, Director of IES Admissions and Amy’s supervisor, added, “Amy is quick to offer help to other team members as well as to always provide a listening ear as both colleague and friend. She has been a mighty prayer warrior for MVNU and routinely reminds our team to pray. She cares deeply about the mission of MVNU, the staff and our students. Amy won’t only get the job done — she’ll do it with a heart longing to serve and show the love of Christ. I am thrilled to join in congratulating Amy for recognition of her hospitality and service.”
