Schnormeier Gallery showcasing MVNU seniors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Schnormeier Gallery is pleased to present Encounter, featuring the artwork of MVNU senior art students Kristen Lewis and Brielle Owens. The exhibition is on display Dec. 2 through Dec. 11.

A Gallery Talk will be held Thursday, Dec. 5, at 5 p.m. with a reception to follow from 6 to 8 p.m.

Lewis, an art education major, creates colorful bead mosaics that reveal the innocence and joy of children experienced in her life. Lewis grew up in a community that valued the lives of children, influencing her decision to dedicate her life to children. Each colorful bead is carefully placed to celebrate their importance in not just her life, but in ours as well.

Owens, also an art education major, is heavily influenced by her time spent living in Eswatini, Africa. Her work centers on creating intricately detailed drawings of African animals that reveal their strength, grace, and natural beauty. Through her art, she captures their awe and majesty. Her pieces highlight a deep respect for nature and reflect the vitality she encountered during her time in Eswatini.

Together, these two artists create moments to pause and experience the quiet wonder that arises from witnessing life’s intricate details.

Located at 221 S. Main St., Mount Vernon, on the first floor of MVNU’s Buchwald Center, Schnormeier Gallery is dedicated to showcasing diverse artistic expressions. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 1-5 p.m. Admission is free, and all are welcome to experience the transformative power of art in this vibrant community space.
