Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s online Master of Science in Management (MSM) degree program is intentionally designed for working adults—it’s convenient, affordable, and flexible. The program prepares ambitious students for management, executive, and leadership-oriented roles in organizations in virtually any sector.

The Master of Science in Management is a highly focused, fast-paced program that provides students with skills in the functional areas of business, along with essential executive and leadership knowledge. This 10-course, 30 credit hour program is specifically designed for individuals who are current or aspiring leaders in their organization. MSM students learn how to communicate effectively, lead organizational change, maximize human resources, and compete in the global market.

The MSM degree also serves as a more practical alternative to an MBA degree, placing greater emphasis on budgeting and forecasting while allowing students to complete one of the MSM’s specialized concentrations.

Organizational Behavior

A systematic examination of variables, psychological and sociological, that are important in the comprehension of individual motivation, the managing of groups, interpersonal relationships, and organizational effectiveness, as well as creativity and leadership within the organization.

Strategic Management

A capstone study of how firms formulate, implement, and evaluate strategies. Students study strategic management concepts and techniques used to chart the future direction of different organizations. The major responsibility of the student is to make objective strategic decisions based on an integrated perspective of the program curriculum and to justify their decisions through oral and written communication.

MANG 6123

Legal Issues in Management

A course designed to give students an understanding of the legal concepts, rights, obligations, and liabilities faced in the business environment. This course focuses on the arena in which commercial transactions occur and the legal issues that arise with these transactions. It is the goal of this course to prompt students to proactively consider legal issues among the decision dimensions when making a business decision.

The MSM curriculum is comprised of seven graduate business core courses making up 21 credit hours.

The remaining 9 credit hours are taken in the student’s chosen concentration - Logistics Management, Organizational Management, Human Resource Management, or Human and Social Services Leadership.

MVNU’s MSM programs blend a 21-hour core education with nine hours of concentrated coursework that covers an array of topics. Within each concentration, students receive industry-specific training from expert faculty members that can unlock growth potential in public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Explore what we have to offer:


Prepare for a career in designing and managing business processes, either directly (V.P. of Ops, COO) or indirectly (e.g., management consulting). Develop skills for managing interfaces between operations and other business functions.


Students graduate ready to be leaders, executives, and agents for change in any organization by developing a wide range of skills in human resources, operations, and change management.


Graduates of the HR Management concentration are qualified for executive roles in human resource management after obtaining skills in leadership, training and development, and compensation and benefits through the MSM program.


This concentration is ideal for students who seek a leadership role in a non-profit, governmental, or social service program. Students gain the expertise needed to effectively lead an agency by integrating concepts of knowledge in managing interdisciplinary relationships, including secondary trauma, program planning, development, evaluation, and grant writing.
