R.R. Hodges Chapel Restoration Campaign
Since 1989, the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Auditorium has served as a sacred space that has been the spiritual heart of our campus. It has witnessed prayers whispered, voices raised in worship, sermons fueling thought and emotion, and joy and hope from revivals.
Our beloved Chapel has served more than 14,000 students over the past 35 years. The seats are beginning to show their age from years of students sitting, kneeling, listening, praying, and seeking God from their iconic red cushions. The carpet is worn out from years of supporting faithful individuals entering the chapel to be renewed, walking to the altar to be transformed, and leaving the auditorium empowered to be the hands and feet of Jesus. The spiritual impact of these experiences in this space has shaped the lives of our students and God’s Kingdom.
Will you join hands and hearts with us, as we have done so many times before, and ensure that every student who sits in these seats finds a Chapel that reflects the depth of their devotion and the magnitude of their potential?
A chapel is not merely a building; it is a sanctuary of faith, a place where hearts are transformed, where souls are uplifted, and where the presence of God is tangibly felt.

The Time is Now — 1988
Following years of delays to focus on "more pressing matters," on March 3, 1988, ground was broken to start the construction of the R.R. Hodges Chapel and Fine Arts Building. By that time, over $4.2 million was raised or pledged for The Time is Now campaign.
"The Chapel groundbreaking reaffirmed the College’s commitment to ‘education for the whole person’ — including sound, challenging academics, room and encouragement for social growth, and the nurturing of the spiritual side of each student. It was a time which marked the College’s ‘coming of age.’' — from Coming of Age, Mount Vernon Nazarene University, 1968-1993, @1994.
The Time is Now — 2024
Together, we can continue the legacy established by the construction of the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Auditorium made possible by generous donations from Nazarene churches; faithful Nazarenes, founding members of administration, faculty, and staff; alumni; and friends of MVNC.
By investing in the replacement of the seats and carpet in the Chapel, you are supporting the spiritual formation of our students, equipping them with the foundation of faith that will guide them throughout their lives.
Do you have a chapel experience you'd like to share? We want to hear about it!
