MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University is pleased to announce its participation in AWS Academy, an Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) program designed to provide a comprehensive, expert-developed cloud computing curriculum to higher education institutions. AWS Academy is integrated into MVNU’s International Executive Studies program, which began earlier this year.

As part of IES, AWS is designed to provide international students with F-1 visas practical, industry-relevant content that addresses real business challenges. This collaboration strengthens the IES program by offering a unique and comprehensive learning experience, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application in cloud computing.

“We have collaborated with AWS to enhance our curriculum at the bachelor’s and master’s level, providing our students with industry-recognized in-demand credentials,” said Dr. Eric Stetler, Vice President for Graduate and Professional Studies. “What does it mean for our students? Our students will be prepared to communicate and signal to employers their readiness for emerging cloud computing technologies and solutions.”

The AWS Academy program is recognized throughout the IT industry for identifying skilled professionals leading cloud initiatives. It fits into existing course structures and includes lectures, hands-on labs, knowledge checks, and projects for in-depth learning experiences. It prepares students to pursue AWS certifications upon completion.

Unlike typical commercial AWS courses, MVNU’s offerings span an entire quarter or semester, providing ample time for in-depth exploration. This extended format allows students to dive deeply into cloud computing concepts, mastering not just the basics but also the intricacies of AWS technologies.

“In becoming an AWS Academy member institution, our curriculum seamlessly integrates AWS into programs like Bachelor’s of Science in Management Information Systems and Master’s of Science in Management,” said Dr. Stetler. “Our courses are enriched by AWS Academy and offer a comprehensive learning experience that is tailored for higher education. “This curriculum provides engaging content, including demonstrations, projects and activities, to enhance learning without requiring industry work experience.”

MVNU’s curriculum is designed to help students transition smoothly into the workforce. With a solid grasp of AWS Cloud and practical experience, students will be ready to tackle in-demand IT roles and stand out in their professional journey.

“AWS Academy invests in higher education to bolster the worldwide talent supply chain, building a bridge between industry and academia,” said Jess Gilmore, Global Program Lead, AWS Academy. “We’re proud to support Mount Vernon Nazarene University as it cultivates graduates with the real-world, in-demand skills to pursue cloud careers.”
