Spraker named Vice President for Student Life
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (August 3, 2022) — Mount Vernon Nazarene University President Henry W. Spaulding II, Ph.D., is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Spraker, Ed.D., as the Vice President for Student Life.
“Dr. Spraker has a heart for students,” said Spaulding. “He will love our students and mentor Student Life staff out of an abundance of theoretical understanding and multiple years of experience. He is already making an impact in the short time he has been on campus.”
Dr. Spraker has over 16 years of experience in higher education student life and engagement roles. Most recently, he served over 6,000 students as the Director of Student Engagement and Leadership at Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville, Tennessee. Previous to that, he held various roles in the Student Affairs office at Trevecca Nazarene University, including 11 years as Associate Dean of Students for Community Life.
“I am excited about the opportunity to serve at MVNU and contribute to the wonderful work the university is doing for the community and the Kingdom,” said Dr. Spraker. “MVNU has a history and reputation of being committed to its mission and taking seriously the call of ‘shaping lives through educating the whole person,’ which is my personal life’s calling. More than just a few words that are promoted and then handed off to a singular department, MVNU is guided by this mandate throughout the leadership, academic halls, cafeteria, athletic fields, living spaces and beyond; holistic development that produces scholars, good citizens, and image bearers of the Creator.”
As Vice President for Student Life, Spraker will be responsible for all student life activities and will supervise the Director of Campus Life, Director of Residence Life and Student Accountability, Assistant Vice President for Intercultural Engagement and Learning, Athletic Director, Director of Counseling Services, and Commissioner of Club Sports.
“My approach to Student Life is one of collaboration. I believe our success, and the students’ success, is found when different voices are represented and work together,” said Spraker. “My goal is to work with all areas of the university to provide the world-class collegiate experience that MVNU is known for to all of our students regardless of where they live, where they come from, or what they study.”
Dr. Spraker has a B.A. in Business Administration (1998) and an M.A. in Theological Studies (2009) from Trevecca Nazarene University. He earned an Ed.D. in Higher Educational Leadership and Management from Regent University in 2018.
He will report to President Spaulding and serve on the Senior Leadership Team.
