MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Academic Summer Camps are the perfect opportunity to learn more about college life as a residential student. Camps are offered June 17-21, 2024, and are open to high school students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior years in the fall of 2024.
While spending time as an MVNU Cougar, high school students will work with faculty in their area of interest, experience campus life, and participate in evening on and off campus excursions. Evening activities have included glow bowling, video gaming, go-kart riding, miniature golfing, and more.
“Last year, we had 80 students from across Ohio and several other states attend,” said Dr. LeeAnn Couts, Dean of School of Natural and Social Sciences, and Camp Director. “The camps provide the students with a hands-on, focused introduction to specific fields of study led by approachable, engaging faculty with expertise in the various fields. Such an experience helps students discern their appropriate career path, builds their self-confidence, and increases the likelihood that they will attend college. It is also a lot of fun!”
The overnight camps will provide hands-on experience in nine different academic and career fields including Pre-Med, Science Exploration, Worship Arts, Psychology, Art and Design, Education, Engineering, Film Production and Nursing.
Each camp is limited to the first 24 students to register and submit payment, with the exceptions of Film Production, which is limited to 16 students, and Pre-Med, which is limited to 20 students.
Registration is $495 per person which includes academic sessions and labs, meals, overnight accommodations, and campus experiences. Additional fees apply for CPR training/certification, and bedding and towel rental. The Knox County Foundation has generously provided scholarship support for Knox County residents with financial needs. Scholarship application is available at mvnu.edu/summer-camp.
“I had a lot of fun, and I made many new friends! I feel like I bonded with the others at the camp very well. I will miss the experience, and I underestimated how fun, exciting, and life-changing the Academic Summer Camps would be,” said a 2023 camper.
