Excellence In the Call award recipients

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio —  Faculty and staff at Mount Vernon Nazarene University celebrated their peers during the Excellence In the Call awards reception held Thursday, April 25, in Foster Hall. Judy Clevenger and Sue Morningstar were applauded for their hard work and dedication to MVNU’s mission.

Judy Clevenger plays an “indispensable role” in MVNU’s School of Graduate and Professional Studies as the Senior Academic Services Specialist. Her work is known to be “remarkably accurate” and according to nominations, her deep knowledge, exceptional work ethic, long tenure, and consistently positive attitude contributes to MVNU’s mission and inspires her colleagues.

“Judy embodies the spirit of excellence and dedication that this award seeks to honor,” cited one nomination. “As the Senior Academic Services Specialist, Judy plays an indispensable role in our GPS growth and success. She adeptly manages complex processes and systems, including Acadeum and IES, and her involvement in the ARnR Team showcases her commitment to improving our institution’s operations. Notably, Judy’s meticulous effort to manually enroll International Executive Studies students into the LMS, navigating through Colleague, Slate, and Moodle, is a testament to her unparalleled dedication and expertise.”

“Judy is a person of integrity and character — friendly, fair-minded, not easily shaken by challenges, and dedicated to being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in each of her areas of influence,” stated another nomination. MVNU is all the better because of Judy’s continued faithfulness and commitment to this institution, as well as her desire to be an effective witness and ambassador of Christ.”

Sue Morningstar is the Facility Services Housekeeper in the Thorne Library Building. Nominations praise her hard work, dedication, communication, and love. She is known to be kind, encouraging, and cheerful to all she meets.

“Sue exemplifies our MVNU Guiding Principles, especially by her daily demonstration of showing ‘Unreasonable Hospitality,’ in her kind, caring, and pleasant demeanor,” stated a peer. “Her quiet, gentle ‘good mornings’ are heard frequently by students, guests, and staff. All who come into the Thorne Library and our Center for Student Success are blessed to have Sue share her giving heart, through her consistent diligence in maintaining order and cleanliness throughout the building while being a Morningstar, all day — everyday. We are thankful and appreciate all she does with cheerfulness and grace.”

“Sue works tirelessly to ensure the library functions as a safe, healthy environment for the entire campus community and she always does so with a personal connection, a sincere curiosity, and an encouraging word, whatever is happening in her own life or daily routine,” stated a nomination.

The quarterly award includes recognition at an employee reception, a certificate, and $500. The honor was developed and sponsored by donors, who are members of the faculty and staff, to applaud outstanding service, innovation, collegiality, peer leadership, and going beyond the call of duty as recognized and nominated from their peers. Nominations were reviewed by the Excellence In the Call Award Committee, chaired by Mel Severns, University Registrar.
