MVNU welcomes alumni to Homecoming 2023

Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s alumni are invited home for Homecoming 2023 on Nov. 10-12. Former classmates, faculty, staff, and friends will reunite over a weekend full of exciting events.

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s alumni are invited home for Homecoming 2023 on Nov. 10-12. Former classmates, faculty, staff, and friends will reunite over a weekend full of exciting events.

“There is an excitement in the air for MVNU among our alumni,” said MVNU’s Executive Director of Alumni Relations & Advancement Mike Cheek. “There are good days, we have a new president, and many of our alumni are looking for ways to connect with each other and with the University. Homecoming will capitalize on these with synergy of a great host of alumni and friends being together.”

Kicking-off the weekend is the President’s Prayer Breakfast beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday in Foster Hall. The MVNU Community will come together to share breakfast and join in prayer for the university. A special guest speaker will bring the morning’s devotion. Space is limited and reservations are required.

Homecoming Chapel on Friday, at 10:20 a.m., will feature stories of alumni who are working and serving around the world. Their experiences and perspectives are curated to provide insight to the curricular theme of the chapel semester. Distinguished Alumni and Honorary Alumni awards will be presented. The Golden Grads from the class of 1973 will also be recognized for celebrating 50 years post-graduation. The class is invited to a special lunch following Chapel.

Do you know an MVNU alum who has demonstrated outstanding professional achievements and selfless church and community service? Nominate them today for the Distinguished Alumni Award. Please send a brief email outlining their qualifications to alumni@mvnu.edu. Nominations are due by Oct. 10.

ADDITIONAL HOMECOMING HIGHLIGHTS

Class Reunions will be hosted at various times and locations throughout the weekend. Reunions are planned for the classes of 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013, and 2018.

An unforgettable Alumni Celebration will be held Friday, from 6-9 p.m., in Foster Hall. Alumni will hang out with former classmates, friends, faculty, and staff. Admission is free with MVNU basketball tickets. Women play Lourdes University at 5 p.m. Men play Harris Stowe University at 7:30 p.m.

Donuts and Devotions will start Saturday off right with donuts and coffee. From 9-10 a.m., in the Prince Student Union, connect with alumni director Mike Cheek, and hear the latest campus updates all while networking with other alumni.

This year’s Music Department Concert will be held Saturday, from 1-2:30 p.m., in the R. R. Hodges Chapel/Auditorium. MVNU student choirs and wind ensembles will provide a medley of musical entertainment.

A President’s Reception with Dr. Carson Castleman will take place at 6 p.m. in Foster Hall. You can also cheer on the MVNU men’s basketball game against Washington Adventist at 6 p.m., which will include a halftime appearance by Dr. Castleman.

The MVNU Theatre Program will wrap up Saturday’s events with the presentation of two back-to-back one acts beginning at 7 p.m., in the Thorne Performance Hall.

Conversations with Dr. Castleman will take place Sunday at 8 a.m. Dr. Castleman will share his personal story, testimony, and vision for the spiritual culture of MVNU along with his desire for spiritual growth in the lives of students.
