MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University has appointed Sarah Mowry as the new Director of Residence Life and Student Accountability. Mowry served the university as assistant director of Residence Life for two years and resident director for four years.

Mowry will supervise Residential Life, housing, and student conduct and policies. She will oversee the professional staff of resident directors and assistant resident directors, along with the Residence Life student staff. Mowry will also collaborate with other campus departments such as Athletics, Facilities, Campus Safety, etc., to ensure residential life runs smoothly for students and staff.

“We are excited to have Sarah in this role. Her years of experience in Residence Life combined with her years as a youth minister have prepared her well to lead this program and team,” said Dr. Matt Spraker, Vice President for Student Life. “Sarah knows residence life, ministry, leadership and MVNU — and I know she will excel in this role.”

Mowry has a bachelor’s degree in music ministry from Olivet Nazarene University and graduated from MVNU with an MBA in Organizational Management.

“I cannot express the joy and privilege I have had serving in Residence Life as an RD for the last four years,” Mowry said. “It has provided an avenue for my calling to ministry, specifically serving college-age students, while collaborating with a group focused on the same goal — serving students during this unique chapter of their lives. Since I was able to serve as a Resident Director in both freshmen and upperclassmen areas, I believe I have a well-rounded understanding of the different needs of our students, and hope to continue learning and serving through this role.”

Mowry looks to the future of Residence Life, and the direction she hopes to take as the new director.

“My plan is to continue building on the foundation of a restorative, growth-focused and grace-filled process by those who came before me. I will always prioritize our students, advocate for them, and encourage their growth, even in the difficult moments,” Mowry said. “I love MVNU, and I love the unique role Residence Life has. When you love the job you do, you can’t help but want to do it to the best of your ability. I commit to continuing my prayer in clarity and guidance while taking on this director role. I invite anyone and welcome prayers for our staff and students, as we prepare for this year!”
