Degree Requirements

Interdisciplinary Approach: The Integrated Studies major allows students to choose courses from three different academic areas, ensuring a well-rounded education that meets MVNU's robust curriculum standards.

Primary Content Area:
18 credit hours from a current major.

Two Secondary Content Areas:
12 credits in each of two secondary content areas, totaling at least 24 hours.

Capstone Course:
ITD-4032 Integrated Studies Capstone course (2 credits). This course is designed for students to synthesize the knowledge and skills acquired throughout their coursework in a scholarly and practical manner. In the final semester of the program this course enables students to demonstrate core competencies relevant to their areas of study, and prepares them for future careers or further graduate education.

Total Credits:
A minimum of 44 credit hours in primary and secondary content areas, plus general education requirements and electives to reach at least 120 total credits for the degree.

Upper Division Credits:
At least 17 upper division credits within the three content areas and 30 upper division credits within the entire degree.

Admissions Process

Application for Candidacy:
Apply for the Integrated Studies major as early as possible, with a deadline of at least one semester before graduation. The application includes a full statement of educational and career goals, reasons for choosing the Integrated Studies major, and a list of selected content areas with a rationale for those choices.

Advising and Approval: 
After submitting your application to the Executive Director of Foundational Learning you will meet together to develop a semester-by-semester plan. Once accepted into the program, you will work closely with the Executive Director of Foundational Learning, who is your assigned advisor, to ensure you stay on track to complete your degree. You may not register for or withdraw from any course without prior advice and approval from your advisor.
