Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nursing

A bachelor’s degree in Nursing is a career choice with a broad appeal. Nursing makes up one of the largest segments of the U.S. workforce, and the demand for nurses is rapidly increasing. Opportunities for nurses grow every day and there are many areas of employment available, from maternal-child care to surgical nursing. Because of this, nursing is one of the most viable degree options for a student to pursue. Plus, nurses are known for being wonderful support systems that make a meaningful difference in the lives of their patients.

In addition to rigorous classroom instruction from expert faculty, nursing students at MVNU learn through a range of clinical practice opportunities in a variety of health care organizations.

Hunter Hall, home of the MVNU Nursing department, features our state-of-the-art Nursing Skills Lab, including three simulation-observation rooms, high-fidelity human patient simulators, virtual reality simulators, and two large skills laboratories. We are devoted to making sure that you have ample hands-on experience that will allow you to enter into your career with competence and confidence.

Nursing Scholarships, Loans, and Grant Opportunities

American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN): AACN provides an exhaustive list of scholarships, grants, loan forgiveness, and additional aid for undergraduate and graduate nursing students.  Visit the AACN website for more information. 

Choose Ohio First: New undergraduate nursing students who are residents of Ohio can apply for this scholarship through the MVNU Admissions Office after acceptance and deposit confirmation is received.

Foundation of National Student Nurses’ Association (FNSNA): Undergraduate nursing students can apply for a variety of scholarships through FNSNA Online.

Ohio Nurses Foundation Scholarships: The Ohio Nurses Foundation (ONF) offers multiple scholarships and grants for nursing students pursuing undergraduate and advanced degrees every year.  See the ONF website for more information.

Nurse Corps Scholarship Program:  This scholarship program through HRSA enables nursing students to receive scholarship to pay for educational costs including tuition and fees. They may also receive a monthly stipend. After graduation, students are required to work in an eligible healthcare facility with a critical shortage for nurses. Nurse’s Scholarship through American Legion Auxiliary: Undergraduate and graduate nursing students who are veterans or direct descendants of an honorably discharged veteran may qualify. For more information, visit the American Legion Auxiliary website.

MVNU has many endowed scholarships available for students of a wide variety of backgrounds and majors.

Careers in Nursing

With over 300 specialty areas in Nursing, it’s not difficult to find employment in your area of interest with this degree. Because of MVNU’s reputation for graduating highly skilled nurses, our Nursing graduates are in high demand. In fact, many are even hired into full-time nursing positions before graduation.

Our state-of-the-art Nursing Skills Lab, including three simulation-observation rooms, high-fidelity human patient simulators, and two large skills laboratories, provides students with the high-end technology they need to learn about their field in minute detail

Using Meta Quest 3 headsets and the SimX platform — a leader in medical simulation — MVNU students immerse themselves in virtual hospital rooms that mirror real-life clinical environments. Paired two at a time, students engage with lifelike patient scenarios where they assess symptoms, administer medications, apply oxygen, perform catheterizations, start IVs, and even listen to heart, lung, and bowel sounds and feel the palpation of a patient’s pulse. The goal? Prepare students for the real world by making the virtual feel real!

Throughout your time in our program, you will participate in over 620 hours of clinicals. We are devoted to making sure you have ample experience that will allow you to enter into your career with ease and confidence in your abilities.
