About Us
The MVNU Way
MVNU equips students to make a difference in the Church, in the workplace, and in their communities — wherever God may lead them. Through conviction, conversation, care, and connection, students are prepared not only for careers, but for callings. This is The MVNU Way.
When our students leave our campus, it’s our prayer that they will carry His flame forward and spread the light of Jesus to everyone they meet.
Our Nazarene Tradition
As an institution of the Church of the Nazarene, MVNU stands in the Wesleyan evangelical tradition and incorporates those ideals into every aspect of our community.
A coeducational university of the arts and sciences, MVNU is the official university of the East Central Educational Region of the Church of the Nazarene with sponsorship and support from congregations in Ohio, West Virginia, and the eastern half of Kentucky.
Control is delegated to the Board of Trustees elected by the annual assemblies of the Central Ohio, East Kentucky, East Ohio, North Central Ohio, Northwestern Ohio, Southwestern Ohio, West Virginia North and West Virginia South districts.
Many of our students come from this church constituency. However, the University welcomes students of like ideals into our theologically diverse university community.
What is Nazarene?
The Church of the Nazarene is an evangelical Christian denomination that believes education coupled with evangelism, compassion, working for justice and bearing witness to the Kingdom of God are all essential aspects of the mission to make disciples in the nations.
Why Christian Education?
Our framework for whole-person education is rooted in God's love, the source from which all our University-level educational goals flow. This framework includes three primary elements: scholarship, character and service.
4 Pillars of The MVNU Way
At Mount Vernon Nazarene University, learning is rooted in four core pillars: conviction, conversations, care, and connection. It’s how we live out the MVNU Way.
