Life at MVNU
Living Off-Campus
We believe there is a depth and richness of Christian community that is made possible by the closeness that develops through experiencing daily life together. Because of this belief, we require most traditional students to reside in on-campus housing for the duration of their studies at MVNU. However, students are approved to commute to campus if they meet certain criteria (see FAQ below).
As part of this commitment, we offer a variety of ways to connect and get to know other members of the campus community for everyone. We go out of our way to make those commuter students feel welcome and remind them they are a vital part of our campus community!
The Commuter Lounge
Located on the first floor of Hyson Campus Center near The REC, the Commuter Lounge is a place for you to hang out between classes, eat, study, or just relax. Resources include a refrigerator, microwave, Keurig, study tables, and storage lockers.
The Commuter Library Resource Room
Located on the main floor near the entrance of Thorne Library, this specialized area has a refrigerator, microwave, Keurig, study tables, and storage lockers–plus super-quick access to the Happy Bean campus coffee shop.
Commuter FAQs
It's true that we require most traditional students to live on campus. It makes living in a Christ-centered community much easier.
However, students will be approved to commute to campus if they meet one of the following criteria:
- Living in the primary residence of a parent/legal guardian (within 60 miles from campus)
- Taking less than 12 credit hours per semester
- Legally married or the parent/guardian of a child
- Age 23 or older prior to August 31 of that school year
Yes! Lots of students utilize the Ariel Arena lobby, the Prince Student Union, or the common areas in Hyson Campus Center to study.
Your commuter parking pass allows you to park in the Chapel parking lot and Ariel Arena parking lots. We are a walking campus, so feel free to store your extra books and belongings in one of our designated commuter area lockers either in the Commuter Lounge on the main floor of the Barn or in the Commuter Resource Room on the main floor of Thorne Library.
Incoming commuter students can secure their $50/semester parking pass by registering their car with Campus Safety via the MVNU Student Portal.
There is always something happening on campus. From the MVNU Games to SonFest to Block Party. There are plenty of excuses to hang out on campus outside of class. For a list of more events, click here.
Want to get outside? The Recreational Equipment Center (REC) has a variety of equipment like kayaks, bikes, hammocks, and more, that you can use for free as an MVNU student! Learn more here
