Registrar Registration

Getting Registered

The University Registrar’s Office announces registration dates and information for each semester. The University expects students to complete registration within the published time frame.

Students are not permitted to enroll after the last day of registration without the approval of the University Registrar’s Office. Students are responsible for all registered courses, and credit may not be earned in a course without proper and timely registration.

Changes in Course Registration

The student initiates changes in course registration by contacting the assigned academic advisor(s) in person or through the MVNU email account. Students may contact the University Registrar's Office when the advisor is not available. Once a semester begins, then follow the instructions outlined below.

In FA and SP traditional semesters, students may contact their academic advisor to:

  • Add a course within the first five class days
  • Drop a course without a permanent W grade within the first 10 class days
  • Discuss withdrawing from a course beginning the 11th class date through the designated last date to withdraw from a course in the semester

Steps:

  1. The student will contact their academic advisor with the following information:

Subject Line: Student Name and MVNU ID#

Email Body: Specify the course(s) and section number(s), course title(s), and whether adding or dropping. (For example: Please drop ENG-1083-2, College Writing from my current FA schedule.)

  1. Advisor will reply to the student and copy in registrar@mvnu.edu and course instructor, giving permission to process the request.
  2. The registrar staff will “reply all” with the status of the request (e.g., completed, class is closed, part-time issue).
  3. If the student is an athlete, the advisor sends the request to mseverns@mvnu.edu. The registrar will “reply all” with the status of the request.

Specific Guidelines:

  • The add, drop, or withdraw period ends at 4:30 p.m. on the published calendar date.
  • If the drop is dated beginning the 11th class day, the W is in effect even if the last date of attendance fell within the first 10 days.
  • All W grades require last date of attendance or noted if "never attended.” Deviation from the published dates must have administrative approval involving the registrar, advisor, and course instructor.
  • If dropping below full-time status (<12 hours), the student must complete the Class Schedule Change Form (i.e. add/drop form) that can be picked up at the registrar’s office in Founders Hall. When the form is complete, return it to the registrar’s office for entry into the database.
  • Students withdrawing from all courses in a semester must first meet with their student success coach.
  • Summer add, drop, and withdraw dates are sent to enrolled students and instructors along with instructions on emailing the University Registrar or designee for processing changes.

Auditing Courses

Students may benefit from auditing a class. When a course is audited, no credit is given and the work cannot be counted later for credit. Students enrolled as full-time students are encouraged to enroll in one additional course by audit. Auditing is not encouraged in private lessons, laboratory, performance, or skill courses. Auditing is subject to the applicable fees and refunds.

Repeated Courses

Courses in which C- or lower grades were received may be repeated. Other courses may not be repeated without approval of the University. The most recent grade is used in computing the cumulative grade point average. The original grade remains on the transcript. Credit hours count only once toward graduation. Tuition must be paid for repeated courses. See the University Registrar for details on appealing a course.
